By using ‘\n’ you can add line breaks to the Table of Contents title, creating multi-lined titles which can act as simple cover pages to casefiles and their exported PDFs

As with any document in the Casedo Index, you can change the name from the default ‘Table of Contents’ to a name of your choice simply by double-clicking the name in the Index itself. However, unlike for other documents titles, you can add line breaks into the Table of Contents by simply adding the keystrokes \n , creating more complex and effective titles.

How to add line breaks to your Table of Contents title

  1. Add a Table of Contents (for detail on how to do this see How to create a Table of Contents).
  2. Double click on the Table of Contents in your Index.
  3. Rename it in your Index as you normally would, adding \n where you want each line to finish.

For example, if you type in the following

Case number HG37462 \n In the Central London County Court \n X v Y Hearing 02.11.2020

You will get this as the header on the document itself (you might need to refresh the Table of Contents to see the change):

Case number HG37462
In the Central London County Court
X v Y Hearing 02.11.2020

by adding \n where you want a line break, Casedo separates the titles with ‘-‘ in between them in the Index, and with a line break in the document itself.

Example 1

Add the following line break text to the Table of Contents:

Case Number 20051234 \n In the First-Tier Tribunal \n Michael Brown and Bridget Brown v The commissioners for her majesty’s revenue and customs

Example 2

Add the following line break text to the Table of Contents:

The Finance Act 20023 \n Interpretation Act 1978 \n Chitty Chapter 2

Example 3

With judicious use of the Space Bar on your keyboard you can also create the following.  Note that the titles cannot be wider than the lines above and below the Table of Contents title.

Add the following line break text to the Table of Contents (for the sake of clarity I have replaced spaces ” ” with full stops “.” When using Casedo to do titles like this, use spaces ” “):

Jane.Smith…………………………………..CASE.NO..55689452.\n.v…………………………………………………………….First.Tribunal.\n. Grayson.Ltd………………………………………………..2021.08.12
