Adding a cover page to your Casefile, whether you have to, or not, is as easy as adding any document to Casedo, though you might want to be careful of the pagination.

How to add a Cover Page to your Casefile

Firstly it’s worth pointing out that there are two ways that a ‘Cover Page’ is traditionally added to a bundle or brief of documents, be it legal or for another use. The Cover Page can be more of an elaborate heading above the Table of Contents, or a separate page entirely, inserted before the Table of Contents.

This article deals with adding a separate Cover Page before the Table of Contents, for adding a title or shortened Cover Page above the Table of Contents, see How to add line breaks to a Table of Contents title.

Adding a separate Cover Page to your Casefile

We are assuming that the Casefile we are using is quite long and complex, and has a Table of Contents. If the Casefile does not have a Table of Contents, the steps remain the same.

Open the Casefile

Import the Cover Page

Assuming that you have already created the Cover Page in an importable format (most likely as a Word Document or PDF), you can import it directly into the Casedo Desk Space and then drag it into the Index of your Casefile, above the Table of Contents.

We are going to import this Cover Page created from this Cover Page Template. Feel free to download and use them yourself.

Once imported, Regenerate the Table of Contents:

NB. If you have Folder-Based pagination selected, the Cover Page will not show in the Table of Contents, because the page itself is not in a folder. This should mean that you wont have to make the adjusts below, but we recommend you do for best practise.

Set the Cover Page to ‘Do not paginate’

If you want to you can now rename the Cover Page. In this example it’s been renamed to Cover Page. You can see in the example above that the Cover Page is showing in the Table of Contents and has been paginated, this means that the first page of the Casefile is now page 2.

(Do remember that you can set the paginated to start at any page and at any number you wish, using a combination of the Do not paginate feature and Set Pagination Start Page).

If, as is usually the case, you want the cover to not be included in the pagination, you just need to context click on the Cover Page and select Do not Paginate.

If you now Regenerate the Table of Contents you will see that the Cover Page is now not included in the Table of Contents:

The Casefile now begins with an unpaginated Cover Page and can now be exported to PDF if needed.
